Who is Rick James?- Parents, Siblings, Childhood, and Education
This handsome man was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. His parents’ names are Mabena and James Ambrose Johnson Sr.
His father worked as an autoworker while her mother was a dancer for Katherine Dunham and later became a numbers runner.
At the age of 10, his father left the family along with eight other children. So her mother struggled a lot to fulfill the needs of the kids.
She used to work in the bars, and while visiting her mother, he encountered singers such as Elta James, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane.

Rick was born in the year of 1948 on the 1st day of February. He began inhaling cocaine in 1980 and soon became an addict. When he used to do cocaine in his Beverly Hills mansion, he covered the window with aluminum foil to block the people.
When he was prisoned, Rick confessed that he no longer used cocaine, but his test report showed another thing. On 2004 August 6, Rick died because of a heart attack.
The heart attack was caused by the consumption of nine different types of drugs. He was found in his apartment in Oakwood Toluca Hills by his personal assistant.
According to David Campbell of the coroner’s office, the test showed the signs of Valium, Xanax, Celexa, Digoxin, Wellbutrin, Vicodin, Chlorpheniramine, and others. However, the coroner ruled that none of the drugs were at length and declared the death to be accidental.

Rick migrated to Toronto, where he met Levon Helm, who played in Ronnie Hawkins’s backing band. Eventually, they became friends and formed a soul and rock band named Mynah Birds. They released some of the hit music that time and met Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.
It is still unknown who advised him to shorten his name from James Ambrose Johnson Jr to Rick James. In 1978 he decided to go solo and released Come Get It!.
It eventually skyrocketed his fame. Later he launched another hit song Street Songs, Super Freak, Give It To Me Baby, and many more.
Other than this, James also made soulful ballads such as Ebony Eyes, Fire & Desire. In 1991 his album U Can’t Touch This received a Grammy Awards for Best R&B.
