James Tour is an American chemist and a nanotechnologist who is a Professor of Chemistry, NanoEngineering, Materials Science, and a Computer Science at the University of Rice in Houston, Texas.
A BSC from the University of Syracuse, James M. Tour earned his Ph.D. in organic synthetic chemical and organometallic chemistry from the University of Purdue. And postdoctoral research in organic synthetic chemistry from the University of Stanford and the University of Wisconsin.
He was assigned to Rice University Centrum for Nanoscale Science and Technology in 1999 after 11 years as a professor at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of South Carolina, where he is currently T. T. And W. And W. F. Chao, Chemistry teacher, Computer Science teacher, Materials Science Professor, and NanoEngineering teacher.

Early Life of James Tour
In his first year at university, Tour was born into a Jewish family and became a born-again Christian. He defines himself as a Messianic Jew, considered by the State of Israel and major Jewish movements to be a form of evangelical Christianity. He says that religion has not played any part in his scientific work and stands in awe of God.
He earned postdoctoral diplomas at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1986–1987) and Stanford University (1987–88), from Syracuse (BS, 1981), and Purdue University (Ph.D., 1986) Tours received postdoctoral.
Career Life of James Tour
James Tour’s thesis has included organic chemistry and material science and focuses on carbon and nanotechnology materials chemistry. More than 700 academic publications and more than 130 patent families, with an H-index of 150, and over 107,000 citations.
Tour work on carbon materials covers fullerene purification, composites, and nanoportatives to detect oil drop-offs, cookies, and insect graph synthesis. His group has developed pore metal systems, including batteries and supercapacitors, to generate electricity from renewable sources.
Tour has developed electronic oxide-based memories which can also be translucent and embedded into versatile substrates. He deals closely with graphene oxide synthesis and its use in the capture of radionuclides from water. The Tour group has developed electronic memories based on graphs as well.
The Laser-induced Graphene (LIG) group discovery of the Tour has contributed to an immense research area for graphene researchers worldwide. This platform is being used to create a variety of system structures made from LIG foams.

James Tour Experiments and Inventions
Tour was the first to demonstrate that motors based on Feringa can drive a molecule using light on a surface as opposed to electric current from an STM tip. The synthesis of conjugated polymers and exact oligomers was the subject of his early career.
Tour has also been interested in science education, such as NanoKids, an immersive learning DVD that teaches chemistry and physics principles to youngsters. He has created SciRave, a Dance Dance Revolution, and a Guitar Hero kit to teach middle school and elementary school students science concepts.

The mechanisms for evolution are unknown, Tour believes. He thinks that scientists are “utterly clueless” about the origin of life. To date, Tour believes all scientific studies are inadequate to account for the origin of life. He remains open to the possibility of an explanation being provided by future research.
Tour referred to the explanations for the evolution of complex systems in modern biology as little more than storytelling in his lectures. He argues that to have been created by probabilistic chance, the molecules needed for life are too complex. He says that how these structures are assembled into a cell are unknown, and that evolution is a storyteller.
